Vigilante Game Eighteen: Club Manner of Ethereal Delight

Interlude

The Multiplying Electrifying Direbears have been a dedicated group for a while. They figured it was time to set up our own base of operations. Everyone always wants to start an inn, but I suppose MED isn’t everybody. MED decided the one thing Bastion was lacking in was a Spa. There was a rumor of an ancient elven spring near Bastion that once had minor healing properties. Soon after the Battle for Bastion the healing had stopped working and the caretakers of the spring had become desperate.

MED started the day in an Inn, not a very exciting Inn, it was an Inn like many others. A card game was being played in the corner, Ereden headed over. Deciding to play the fool and attempt to take all of these men by surprise, Ereden asked how to play, knowing full well how to play. He placed a large bag of money on the table which caused all but one of the men to get very excited. After several games, Ereden had lost a decent amount of money. He then flipped his strategy and took everything the men were worth. This whole time, June Shin had been attempting to give commentary on the game, actually not understanding how to play it. The last man sat there, staring at Ereden. “I think we might be able to do some business together. Look for me if you need anything done or found that may not be the most legal.” At that, he stood and left.

As the game ended, Martin walked over picked up the table and placed it inside Leache’s bag of holding. This of course caused some concern with the barkeep, he demanded we return the table. Martin acted the fool and simply asked, “what table?” The barkeep persisted and Martin ran out the door grabbing a nearby stool to go with his newly acquired table.

MED ventured forth to where the spring was supposed to be. After a little travel outside of town, they came across a small looking Inn. Inside was an elderly couple who seemed to be rather distressed at the lack of visitors. As MED entered, the couple perked up.
Martin: “Hello, we want to buy your failing Inn.”
Couple: “Excuse me?”
Martin: “I don’t think I could be more clear….”
Martin: “Look, we know the spring isn’t healing anymore. We know you don’t get visitors out this way since the appeal of the spring is gone. Part with this place and retire to Bastion. We’ll give you 3,500 gold pieces for the place.”
We could see that the couple thought we were crazy. Which did not surprise us, we get that a lot. But after a little more negotiation MED bought a rundown inn, finally establishing a home.

Meanwhile, Ereden and the rest of the party had been examining the elven spring. They quickly found small necromantic runes surrounding the pool. They determined they would need the source material before they could dispel it correctly. Uluthrek, asked the animals of the area if they had seen anything in the past few months that was out of the ordinary. This being too broad of a question, he had to ask several different ways before they told him about some black robed figures that tampered with the pool a while back. They did not live far from the pool.

In a nearby dreary cave, we found the necromancers. Martin applied his classic knock to the door, which caused it to explode. June, using her high initiative, ran into the room, ignored the necromancers, and stole a rug. Martin stabbed the first Necromancer, June placing her rug down and then water whipped the other to death. The third dropped to the ground and surrendered. MED tied him up, Ereden set to work getting the information about the necromantic runes. Edna explored the rest of the cavern, finding several undead animals, which she slaughtered with ease. The rest of the necromancers surrendered, giving up the ritual information we needed.

We purified the spring, testing it on the injured wings of Geryl, June Shin’s Pegasus. The effects were slow but his wounds began to heal. Over the next week, MED set to work on building up the spa. Naming it Club: Manner of Ethereal Delight. (See Pamphlet). Under the Spa, Leache began working on a mortuary of sorts, as a way to gain income a different way. Lady Erochnein became one of our best customers in this… And we set up Bryer as the manager of our newly established Spa.

End of game.

Thoughts: Multiplying Electrifying Direbears are now the proud owners of Manner of Ethereal Delight. MED and MED, we couldn’t go wrong with naming it after ourselves. While this game was a one-off while Gareth was away it was still a lot of fun and we now had a base of operations. In a lot of ways, it was the best time for a game like this to happen. Arlyn (June Shin) has made actual pamphlets for the spa to give to other parties. The silliness of this whole thing is great.

As always I shall explain the game! Vigilante is a group cooperative world gaming experience. A combination of several D&D groups, all established as different guilds, are all active in the world influencing the events of the town of Bastion and surrounding area. The guilds allow everyone to exchange items and it also allows players to switch parties to pursue different quests and be part of events. The story continues to progress in cool and inventive ways and I am so grateful to the collaborative Dungeon Masters for putting it all together, but there are still a ton of things to do and uncover and I look forward to more interesting and exciting adventures.
I know I haven’t been posting my weekly games, but I will have all of them typed up soon. I’ll keep posting updates of my weekly games going forward! Hopefully!
