Vigilante Game Fifteen: Into the Lair of a Wizard

The plan was simple, with the help of Bryce and his father we slip back into Justinius’ pocket dimension, find a soul stamp, gather more intel, and blow the place up. What could go wrong?

We were met by the large planar Octopus creatures, the curators we assumed. They greeted us as they had before. Asking what they could do for us this time. We explained that we were there just as an inspection for the master. “Again?” They asked. “He wants us to be more thorough and make sure everything is ready. Also, the Master is upset about the clone you gave us and wants us to bring a different one.

They seemed suspicious of us this time but let us continue. The party decided to split into two groups. One group to go below the shimmering pool of not water and one to head up to where the soul stamps were located. On the backs of their mighty borrowed Pegasi, Martin rode with Ereden on the now named Leeroy Jenkins, Uluthrek rode with Hilda, Lieche joined Bertok on the back of his broom, and Edna and June road Garyl (Adventure Zone continues to be referenced). From there we split into two groups, Ereden, Martin, Uluthrek and Hilda going below while the others stayed up above.

Down Below

It was dark, darker than it had been the last time we had been down here. We flew towards the area the prince clones were being kept. Our job was simple, line the rooms with explosives and wait for the signal to head out. It should have been an easy job until we heard the laughter.

Up Above

For this part, it should have been easy as well (A recurring theme). The goal was to get the soul stamps, destroy them, and alert the rest of the party so that we may leave this awful place together. They managed to do some damage to the soul stamp room, just enough to be noticed by the Octopus Curators. They screamed and rushed towards the party.

Laughter. A mad laugh, filled with power. Before us stood Justinius, one of his simulacrum no doubt. He raised his hand and pointed at us, a jet of red light flew passed us but the force of the explosion still knocked us off our Pegasi. Uluthrek charged Justinius swinging his mighty ax down into him. Justinius’ hand crackled with energy once more and blasted Uluthrek away from him. Seeing how futile the situation seemed to be, Martin set to work concocting a makeshift bomb using a combination of dynamite and alchemist fire. Hilda, Ereden, and Uluthrek in the meantime set to work delaying Justinius as best they could.

Up Above

The curators kept coming. They were proving to be a lot stronger than originally anticipated. The battle was looking grim when a sudden explosion from beneath rippled from under the magic water. The party seeing this broke away from the Octopi and fled towards the exit.

Down Below

The bomb exploded right at the feet of Justinius, consuming him and all of the clone bodies of the prince. It was time for Martin and friends to leave this place. Hopping back on Pegasi, Martin, and Uluthrek flying behind Hilda and Ereden, dashing through the air to the slowly closing opening in the water that separated them from the rest of the party. The pegasus which carried Martin and Uluthrek lagged behind, failing to pass through the gateway before it closed. As the liquid made contact with Martin and Uluthrek, all nonmagical items and equipment dissolved. Causing the vials of alchemist fire to ignite and then explode.

MED turned to see the portal closing to the pocket dimension, Uluthrek and Martin had yet to emerge. As the portal dwindled an explosion of green flames leaped from the entrance carrying with it two ragdoll like bodies and the remains of a cindered pegasus. Battered and slightly broken MED has little time left before the Masquerade. Will they be able to make it back in time to help prevent the destruction of Bastion?!

End of Game fifteen.

Thoughts on the game: It was a fairly battle heavy session following all of our planning from the previous game which I, your chronicler missed. I do have to thank June Shin for keeping a log of the adventure and for keeping me in the loop, she’s the best in and out of the game. We have dispatched Justinius’ clone factory and have prevented him from having an army ready for his inevitable attack on our lovely city of Bastion. Hopefully, we can make it back in time to stop whatever he has planned for the rest of the city.

For the fifteenth time, I shall explain the game! Vigilante is a group cooperative world gaming experience. A combination of several D&D groups are all active in the world and all of them influence the events of the town of Bastion and surrounding area. The guilds allow everyone to exchange items and it also allows players to switch parties to pursue different quests and be part of events. The story continues to progress in cool and inventive ways and I am so grateful to the collaborative Dungeon Masters for putting it all together, but there are still a ton of things to do and uncover and I look forward to more interesting and exciting adventures. I know I haven’t been posting my weekly games weekly, but I will have all of them typed up soon. I’ll keep posting updates of my weekly games going forward! Hopefully!
